NASA Mars Rover Curiosity. The Name “Curiosity”; Is Given By “Clara Ma”; a 12 Years Old Girl From Kansas.

You may know that NASA is preparing to send a Robot to the Mars, in the year 2011. My previous article was about watching live broadcasting of the assembly / construction of the Mars robot at Nasa. Mars Robot is named as “Curiosity”. It’s the nice, beautiful and cute name, nice meaning, easy to pronounce and remember. The name “Curiosity” to the feature Nasa robot is given by a cute girl “Clara Ma”. Thus she became a historical person, and associated her name with NASA’s robot “Curiosity”.Mars Rover

The credit goes to NASA, for the competition, “Mars Rover Name” held in 2009. Clara Ma participated and got selected for the name “Curiosity”. “Clara Ma” is Twelve-Year-Old, Sixth-Grade student from Kansas. She studies at Sunflower Elementary school in Lenexa. Ma decided to enter the rover-naming contest after she heard about it at her school.

As her prize for winning the competition, Clara Ma got a trip to NASA’s, JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), in Pasadena, California. Clara Ma will be honoured to sign her name directly onto the Rover as it is being assembled. Next Picture shows; JPL Mars Science Laboratory engineer Suparna Mukherjee presented Clara Ma with a certificate for her winning entry, “Curiosity.”

Happy and excited Clara Ma says:

I was really interested in space, but I thought space was something I could only read about in books and look at during the night from so far away,” Ma said. “I thought that I would never be able to get close to it, so for me, naming the Mars rover would at least be one step closer.

Ma wrote in her winning essay:

Curiosity is an everlasting flame that burns in everyone’s mind. It makes me get out of bed in the morning and wonder what surprises life will throw at me that day. Curiosity is such a powerful force. Without it, we wouldn’t be who we are today. Curiosity is the passion that drives us through our everyday lives. We have become explorers and scientists with our need to ask questions and to wonder.

So don’t miss the opportunities given by NASA, it can change your life; and can make your dreams come true. Be in touch with NASA’s opportunities, competitions, and challenges, also see how to become an Astronaut and work at NASA.
