Here is the WordPress CMS keyboard shortcuts. So here we are going to consider that you have a Blog or Website self hosted and using WordPress CMS. Their are many powerful and free CMS, available to manage your website or blog. Imagine that you get tons of comments (both real and spam), and it is tedious for you to take your mouse pointer every time to Trash, Approve, and Spam etc… and so here you are going to need Word press Keyboard shortcuts.

The keyboard shortcuts are going to do nothing extra, but it will definitely save your time on WordPress Dashboard or on comment moderation panel, using this you are going to navigate and take action very fast on the wordpress CMS.

To start using Keyboard shortcut on WordPress self hosted blog, first of all you have to activate it as follows:

Login to you wordpress Blog administrator panel > Go to Profile Panel in Administration > Users > Your Profile > than click the keyboard shortcut checkbox.. and thus Keyboard Shortcut for your profile becomes ON.

Any keyboard shortcut will show effect on a comment, only if it is selected. The selected comment will be indicated with a Light-Blue background. Initially or by default NO comment is selected; So first you have to select a comment from your number of comments and to do that press j key or k key from your keyboard. As you will press j or k keys you will see a light-blue background moving Down and Up (simultaneously) behind your comment. Ok now fast recap;

First go to comment page, at first no comment is selected.

Now press j key or k key to select the first comment.

Pressing j key again and again will move your light blue comment background towards Down and down to the next and next comment. Here if you come to the bottom of the comment page by pressing WordPress keyboard shortcut j again and again; next pressing of j key will take you to the next page of the comment page and the first comment of the next comment page. Now again pressing j key will take you in the forward direction on you comment page.

  • Now pressing k key on the same comment page, will take light-blue background in reverse direction, or in up direction on your comment page.
  • Pressing j key on your keyboard moves the current selection (light-blue background) down or forward direction on the comment page.

And pressing k key on your keyboard moves the current selection (light-blue background) up or in reverse direction on your comment page. Just keep pressed j key or k key on your keyboard on the comment panel and see the light-blue background behind the comment going down, down, down, and up, up, up……

After selection as explained above or highlighting your comment with light-blue background, to the comment which you want to perform an action for “Approving, Deletion, Spam tagging, Trashing” etc. use following keyboard keys:

  • Press a key on your keyboard to Approve the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment.
  • Press s key on your keyboard to mark as Spam the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment.
  • Press d key on your keyboard to Delete or Trash the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment.
  • Press z key on your keyboard to Restore the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment from trash or to Undo.
  • Press u key on your keyboard to Unapprove the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment.
  • Press r key on your keyboard to Reply the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment and press Esc to cancel from reply.
  • Press q key on your keyboard to Quick Edit the current highlighted (Light-Blue background) comment.

To perform the bulk action using keyboard shortcut, first you have to select the comment for the bulk action i.e. checking the check box at the left side on the comment panel.

  • Press x to check (checking the check box) the current highlighted comment.
  • Press Shift-x alternately will check and uncheck (toggling) the current highlighted comment.

Once you have several comments, checked in the check box, press the following key on your keyboard to perform the bulk action, on the checked or selected comment.

  • Press Shift-a to Approve the all checked or selected comments.
  • Press Shift-s to Mark the checked or selected comments as spam.
  • Press Shift-d to Delete the checked or selected comments.
  • Press Shift-u to Unapprove the checked or selected comments.
  • Press Shift-t to Move the checked or selected comments to the Trash.
  • Press Shift-z to Restore the checked or selected comments from the Trash.
